Kim Scarborough: things I do: computer nerd stuff: tips & cheatsheets: CrashPlan on FreeBSD

Install the following ports:
- emulators/linux_base-fc4
- java/linux-sun-jre16
- sysutils/linux-procps
Add linux_enable="YES" to /etc/rc.conf
Add linproc /compat/linux/proc linprocfs rw 0 0 to /etc/fstab
mount /compat/linux/proc
cd to your CrashPlan-install directory, and then as root, do: /compat/linux/bin/bash
Run ./install.sh. Accept all the defaults except do not start CrashPlan desktop.
Install CrashPlan on a handy Windows/OS X/Linux box and then set it up as a headless client per these instructions.

Note that the engine will not start at boot. I’ll write an rc.d script at some point and add it here; until then, you’ll have to start it manually when you reboot.
